WANTED
PROLONGED RESPONSE TEAM MEMBERS
Your local Fire/EMS services need your help in the event of a prolonged emergency response (e.g., wildfire, freeze, flood, or other disaster). Your assistance would not be required at the response site but would involve supporting Fire/EMS personnel by delivering and distributing necessities (food, water, drinks, etc.) and picking up supplies for distribution. (You won’t be making sandwiches.)

What We Do
Prolonged Response
WHEN THERE IS A PROLONGED RESPONSE, MEANING OUR CREWS ARE AT AN EVENT FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME, THE AUXILIARY IS CALLED TO PROVIDE WATER, HYDRATION DRINKS, SNACKS AND SOMETIMES MEALS. WE HAVE ESTABLISHED 4 TEAMS (NORTH, SOUTH, EAST AND WEST) TO CALL IN THE EVENT OF A RESPONSE.
Smoke Rider Fire
THE LONGEST PROLONGED RESPONSE WE HAD WAS THE SMOKE RIDER FIRE IN AUGUST 2022. IT COVERED 1,200 ACRES. IT WAS PRIMARILY IN HAYS COUNTY BUT BLANCO ESD2 WAS IN CHARGE. WE FED UP TO 250 FIRST RESPONDERS LUNCH AND DINNER. THE FIRE RAN FOR 6 DAYS. FIRE CREWS FROM BLANCO, HAYS, COMAL, BURNET AND TRAVIS COUNTIES ALONG WITH COUNTLESS UNITS FROM THE TEXAS A&M FOREST SERVICE, US FOREST SERVICE AND THE TEXAS INTRASTATE FIRE MUTUAL AID SYSTEM (TIFMAS) FOUGHT TO CONTAIN THIS WILDFIRE. WE WERE ABLE TO PURCHASE FOOD FROM OUR LOCAL RESTAURANTS FOR A REDUCED FEE. THE GEM OF THE HILLS BECAME THE DONATION SITE FOR CASES OF WATER AND HYDRATION DRINKS. THE BLANCO METHODIST CHURCH WAS PREPARED TO ACCEPT ANY EVACUEES.
WE WERE GRATEFUL FOR THE PEOPLE, BUSINESSES AND ORGANIZATIONS THAT MADE MONETARY DONATIONS ALONG WITH FOOD, WATER, TIME AND/OR SERVICES.
